Helping Your Customers

Who would benefit from compression hosiery?

Compression hosiery may benefit people with the following:

  • General discomfort and “heaviness” in the legs – Heavy Legs Syndrome
  • Red or brown staining around or above the ankle
  • Spider veins or itchiness in the lower legs
  • Varicose veins
  • Venous Leg Ulcers or previous history
  • Swelling and throbbing in the legs

When to replace compression hosiery

Customers should be measured at least every 6 months if possible. This may need to be more frequent if they gain or lose weight, or if swelling reduces or increases.

Sockaid – Hosiery Application Aid

If your customer finds it too difficult to put their hosiery on, Sockaid is available to help. It can be used with all classes of hosiery, either open or closed toe. Sockaid is available on prescription or can be purchased directly. Please use the pip code 319-4016.

Hosiery Care

Customers can avoid damage to hosiery by smoothing rough edges from finger and toe nails, and removing jewellery when putting them on or taking them off. We also advise that your customers wear footwear whenever possible to help prevent excessive wear on their stockings.

Hosiery should be hand washed at 40°C and should be left to dry flat away from direct heat.

Do not iron, tumble-dry, dry clean or bleach.
